Exploring Galway: The Perfect Family Airbnb Stay
Airbnb’s Spacious Urban Escape in the Heart of Galway City
Introduction
When planning our four-day family trip to Ireland, we wanted a comfortable, home-like place to stay. Our group of five—my mother, brother, his girlfriend, my young daughter, and I—came together to celebrate Thanksgiving in Galway.
While I love a good hotel stay, Airbnbs offer more benefits when traveling with children and extended family. They provide extra space, a kitchen for cooking, and a cozy atmosphere for downtime. In this post, I’ll share where we stayed and our experience.
Location & Accessibility
We stayed in a centrally located Airbnb on a quiet street in Galway. One of the biggest perks was having nearly everything within walking distance! Restaurants, bars, and Eyre Square were just minutes away. The only time we used our rental car was for a road trip to the Cliffs of Moher.
Upon arriving in Galway, we pulled into a parking spot outside the Airbnb to unload, then parked the car in a nearby garage. The host provided a list of reasonably priced parking options, making it easy to plan.
Airbnb Features & Amenities
The Airbnb is a duplex apartment on the top floor of a walk-up building. Walking in, we were welcomed with a bright, clean, inviting space. The first floor offers a large living room, dining area, and kitchen.
Upstairs, there were three full-sized bedrooms and two full baths. Each bedroom had a unique eye-catching style. The larger of the rooms, pictured below with its beautiful floral wallpaper, featured a small ensuite bathroom. Given the style and beauty of the larger room, my daughter couldn’t wait to sleep there!
Each room unique & stylish. My daughter couldn’t wait to sleep here!
Other outstanding features included:
A fully equipped kitchen, which made it easy to whip something up when my little one was hungry.
Comfortable sleeping arrangements for the whole family.
Reliable Wi-Fi, which was a must for planning our daily itinerary.
Heating and cozy furnishings that made it feel like home.
A beautifully curated magazine created by the Airbnb host with their personal recommendations, important information, and emergency numbers.
Family-Friendliness
As a single mom traveling with my daughter, safety and comfort are always top concerns.
Here’s how this Airbnb measures up:
Safety: The neighborhood felt very safe, and the home had secure locks.
Noise: The location was quiet and we all slept soundly!
Space: There was more than enough space! My family was able to relax, play, and enjoy our time together. As for the stroller, we parked our umbrella stroller at the base of the stairs inside the apartment without issue.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
Convenient location in Galway! Within walking distance to most key attractions.
Spacious, comfortable, clean, and well-equipped.
Thoughtful touches like the host’s magazine of recommendations, local guidebooks, and holiday decor. Given that it was late November, they had a stylish Christmas tree in the corner when we arrived!
Responsive, friendly, and helpful host.
Cons:
The one potential downside is for those with limited mobility. Since it’s a walk-up, the flights of stairs could be challenging for some guests.
Pricing & Value for Money
Considering the prime location, extra space, kitchen, and amenities, the price per night was very reasonable. It offered excellent value compared to hotels in the area.
Final Thoughts & Recommendation
This Airbnb stay in Ireland was a fantastic experience for our family! It provided comfort, convenience, and a local feel that a hotel couldn’t match. I highly recommend it to other single moms or families looking for a home-away-from-home experience while traveling.
Would I book this Airbnb again? Absolutely! I can’t wait to go back!
